What are backlinks?
Backlinks are links from other websites back to your website. This can be an article that featured on another website where you shared your expertise or opinion. But it can also be comments on articles that relate to your industry or, the easiest form, links from an online directory.
There are two main reasons for backlinks. Firstly, if you write a guest article on someone else’s website, there is a high chance that people want to get to know more about who you are and the work you are doing – therefore it will increase your exposure.
Secondly, if you have links from relevant sources, it will also increase your credibility and profile online, which in turn can also increase your ranking and visibility on Google.
An easy way to start
Sharing your expertise and opinions on subject matters is excellent. However, it takes time and the right relationships to place an article to find the right audience.
I personally find online business directories are a great starting point to list your website online and get some additional exposure.
